Product Description
Hone your jumpshot in your spare moments or perform a backyard dunking drill with this Lifetime Shatter Guard XL portable basketball system. Unlike in-ground basketball hoops--which are typically anchored in concrete--this portable system rolls on wheels, letting you position the basket support in any desired location, from the back patio to the middle of the cul-de-sac. All you have to do is fill the heavy-duty 35-gallon base with water or sand and play.
The basketball system comes with a 52-inch-square Shatter Guard backboard made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable and several times stronger than acrylic. When combined with the heavy-duty steel frame and the sturdy steel Y-extension arms, the basketball goal looks and plays just like pro-style glass, with superior rebound effects and terrific stability. The system also includes a three-piece, 3.5-inch round pole with Lifetime's patented pneumatic Action Grip® height mechanism. To change the pole's height--it adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in infinite increments--simply activate the Power Lift with one hand and push it to the correct height. And Lifetime knows that dunking and above-the-rim play are a huge part of modern basketball, which is why the basketball goal includes a Slam-It rim. The solid-steel rim features double-compression springs that give way during dunks to protect the player, then spring back once released.
Other features include welded-steel net hooks with an all-weather nylon net; fade-resistant graphics that are screen-printed with UV-protected inks for superior color endurance; and a five-year warranty that covers everything on the system.

Customer questions & answers
Question:When the backboard is in its lowest position how tall is it? Looking to store it in the garage want to make sure I have room.
Answer:Mine measured 9' 8"" from the floor to the top of the backboard in the lowest position.
Question:What is the thickness of the backboard in inches? (Not the size)
Answer:There are barriers on the sides that run about an inch thick but the glass itself looks about 1/2 an inch thick. It's pretty tough.
Question:How hard is it to move into a garage for the winter? Does it have wheels, etc., and does it move pretty easy for storage?
Answer:Depends on the size and height of your garage. It has wheels, but it likes to roll at about a 45 degree angle, so you may have to play with it a little. You have also split the tube in half and take it apart for the winter. I wouldn't hesitate if you have the space.
Question:how much sand does it take to fill up the base?
Answer:I filled up mine with water and it works just fine if you put sand in it you won't be able to move it at all
Question:My husband is a 35 year old child. Is this appropriate/safe for adults?
Answer:Yes, as long as he is not using the glass backboard to teeth on it is perfectly safe and suitable for adults ;)

My son loves..loves..loves this basketball system..well worth the price to buy a slightly more expensive model 1 time verses several through out the years you will need it.
F***HI couldn't be happier with this hoop. It was a pain to put together but only because my tools were somewhat inadequate for the job so it took probably twice as long (6 hours) to put together with 2 ppl. With a nice ratchet, a rubber mallet, a wrench set and a drill you should be all set. You do need a wood block for one part too (I used a tree stump). The hand adjusting system is great and one of the easier parts of the job. The hoop looked high but when I measured it was a perfect 10ft. The instructions weren't terrible and if u make a mistake it's not because of the instructions. There are similar parts but they way the instructions show them are clear if u stop, look, and use your brain. Like I said with the right tools to start (my ratchet and mallet were broken) this job shouldn't take more than 3 hours. Good luck and enjoy this great basketball hoop!
N***SNSome people say assembly is a 2 person job and if you want a painless experience I would agree with them. I did it myself with a little help from a neighbor and it took me a good 5 hours. I needed assistance putting the backboard/rim on the poll and with fixing the rig used to raise/lower the unit. The little pin used to push the unit up and down came out and I just needed another set of hands but the majority of this can be done by one person. Once assembled the unit looks fantastic!! It plays extremely well and it perfect for children and young adults who will not be hanging on the rim. It adjusts up and down effortlessly and I have received many compliments on how nice it looks when it is fully assembled.
H***FIt's a pretty decent goal, construction wise. The shatterproof Makrolon ( polycarbonate) backboard is a little thin about 1/8" but the framing helps stiffen it. The large base and piping helps provide stability. It easily adjusts and locks the goal height into place. I was only able to get it to go to 9 1/2 feet but it might just be the label placement (unlikely) or it just needs a little adjustment to allow for its full travel. Due to the winter weather we haven't been able to use it a lot. It appears to work well, the backboard moves a little when hit with a ball but not enough to make a lot of difference while practicing. It went together well. I could have assembled it by myself but it was easier with some help on attaching the base to the pole. Ours arrived double boxed with all the parts in numbered bags. The assembly booklet ( an exceptionally good one) references the bag numbers in a step by step process simplifying assembly . Inventorying the parts with the list from the booklet prior to attempting assembly and working out of one bag at a time is highly recommended. I used a twin pack of stanley saw horses to assemble the backboard so I could work on the top and bottom at the same time. A short piece of 2x4 worked well in seating the pipes together.
F**Best bang for your buck. I researched a lot of these. This is a great for adults and young basketball stars in the making. Don't bother dumping a ton of money into a portable glass setup. If you want glass board I recommend getting a permanent solution. For the most part I put this together all by myself. There were a few times I needed my wife's hand to hold something steady. Instructions were super easy to read. Having the right tools makes a difference. With all that being said it took me about 3-4 hours to get this done. Once you are done, move the setup near to where you want to have it stand before you fill the base with sand. Once you flip it, it will take at least 2-3 strong guys to tip it to move again. I highly recommend using sand. A few of my neighbors put water in theirs (different brand and model) and in one the water evaporated over time, and in the other the water became ice and cracked the base open in the winter. When the winds blew, it wrecked both of them as there was no weight to hold it from tipping. Lucky for them it happened in bad weather and not when their kids were playing on it. Sand is the best way to go as it is not going to evaporate or cause damage to the base. Take a 2-Litter pop bottle, cut it in half, and use mouth side down as a funnel to pour the sand it. Makes it quick and easy.
A***AThere is a great parts list that breaks everything down by what step the parts are required for. And then the instructions themselves are step by step with pictures of what parts are required and how to put them together. It probably took us 4 hours total to put this together, and definitely requires 2 adults (or one adult and teenage son!). The system itself is very sturdy after assembly. We put water in the base, which for us seems like plenty of weight, and is easily moved by 2 of us. Height adjustment is also very easy, and my 12 year old son had no trouble going back and forth between heights. I would absolutely recommend this system.
C**BVery nice rim, does the job very well. However it requires tools that an average person would not have so be sure to read directions before you begin assembly. Required 3 people to assemble not 2 as suggested and took atleast 5 hrs to complete assembly. Base is not very portable once filled with water. Overall great rim.
