I am a total amateur. It is my first time paddling but from the 5 times I have used it, my conclusions are that it is quite stable even with small waves and not too difficult to steer. My wife, my 2 small children and I have gone and the board holds up perfectly, although we have had to move it with her long paddle and with the help of my wife with another short paddle. Don't expect high speed, but you can have some good laps in calm seas.
