    Customer questions & answers

Question:Does this tv have hdmi 2.1 ports, yes or no?
Answer:The simple answer is "No". The R635 does not have HDMI 2.1 ports because it doesn't have the physical HDMI 2.1 controller chip inside and is not "hardware enabled HDMI 2.1". The R635 has HDMI 2.0 that does support a couple of HDMI 2.1 "software features" like VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).
If anyone is buying a tv and needs all of the HDMI 2.1 features make sure that it is "harware enabled HDMI 2.1" and has HDMI 2.1 chip inside. Even better is that the tv has the HDMI 2.1 chip on all HDMI ports.
There's a lot of confusion out there about HDMI 2.1, I hope this helps.

Question:What is the measurement between the tips on a single leg?
Answer:For the 55" set, there is a single leg spacing at 43.3"
For the 65" set, leg spacing is 21.7" or 51.4"
For the 75" set, leg spacing is 25.9" or 59.5"

Question:What is the spacing for the mount pattern on back. For a wall mount
Answer:This TCL Roku TV is compatible with most wall mounts that support a 300mm x 300mm VESA mounting pattern.

Question:At what resolution will the tv be in when utilizing 120hz?
Answer:With powerful gaming performance including THX Certified Game Mode for exceptional picture performance with uncompromised responsiveness, Auto Game Mode, Variable Refresh Rate upto 120Hz and 120Hz HDR HDMI input at up to 1440p, the 6-Series is a great choice for serious video gamers.

Question:I know this tcl roku tv features 4 hdmi inputs, one of which supports earc, but are the hdmi ports 2.0 or 2.1?
Answer:TCLs 6 Series supports powerful new HDMI features, including eARC, Variable Refresh Rate (up to 120Hz), an Auto Game Mode and 120Hz HDMI Input decoding and is the world’s first TV with a THX certified Game Mode, ensuring not only amazingly fast gaming response, but also a great cinematic picture that gamers demand!

The picture looks amazing. The dark scenes are properly dark, and the brights and colours are popping. I got the 5-series 55" and it came loaded with FW 9.3.2. I was able to easily disable "Action Smoothing" (AKA Truemotion, "Soap Opera Effect") in the settings menu in one stream and it disabled it for all, as I hoped. Also, using the unit's "Movie Mode" disables Action Smoothing and looks great.

I researched TV's for months and watched all kinds of blogs like "Stop the FOMO" and "Digital Trends" and did about as much research online as can be done lol. My goal was to find the best value proposition available at that time - but not compromising picture quality. It became a bit of a hobby I am embarrassed to say. I considered everything on the market and because money matters, chose the TCL 75" 6 series for a bunch of reasons.

I haven't connected the TV to the internet so I don't use the smart features. The built-in media player works with all the videos I have tried. I connect a USB hard drive to the TV and can play 8 bit, 10 bit, AVC and HEVC videos easily. It took a little getting used to the way it orders the files as it is not just A to Z. They put some directories out of order for some reason. And the full filename isn't shown readily so you have to do a little looking when you have a file highlighted. Still, once you get used to it it's easy enough to play a directory of video files, then go back up to a different directory. Video quality looks good, including 4K videos.

At this price, this tv cannot be beat. The picture is good enough for the large majority of consumers and Roku OS is very clean and smooth. My one little complaint is that the soap opera effect seems to be on default for all inputs including when streaming something on Roku. What this means is that everytime you change input, if you want to remove it, you'll have to do it for every input you watch. To be clear this is a minor detail and once you change it, your new setting is set. I had a TCL earlier in the year and found it was a really good tv. Unfortunately, because of a shipping incident (which left a small crack in the screen), I had to return it. That tv (TCL 6 series was no longer available) so I exchanged it with a much more expensive Vizio. Vizio OS (smartcast) is just awful.. Roku is a big advantage that TCL has over many other tv manufacturers. My prior short experience with TCL led me to buy this TV for the basement. I definitely recommend this 5 series tv (and the 6 series for that matter).

I'm impressed with the quality of this TV. I streamed some 1080p and was happy with the smooth clean video and colours. I really like the motion smoothing feature and will find it hard to go back to the choppiness of a regular TV now. I tried some 4K HDR video clips from the internet and wow, I was blown away! It's mesmerizing watching them. With a good source, the blacks look super black and the full array local dimming works very well. The viewing angles were also really good.
